At Green Street Church, we seek to embody the radical welcome that was displayed by Jesus towards everyone he encountered. For many years, Green Street, and later, The Shalom Project, extended that welcome into the community through weekly dinner gatherings known as The Welcome Table. The meals provided nourishment to both the body and the soul, offering a free or donation-based meal to individuals who were food insecure in addition to fellowship, conversation, and an invitation to become a more permanent part of the Green Street family. We have recently received a small grant from the Royce and Jane Reynolds Foundation to revive our Welcome Table events, but we want to do so with thoughtfulness and intentionality, recognizing that much has changed since we last staged these events. To that end, we are planning a series of monthly gatherings of which you are invited to be a participant and a co-creator. As a part of our mealtime discussions, we will engage in dialogue with individuals who come to partake in the event in an effort to hear from the community what their greatest needs are and to work together to build something that is a useful and respectful representation of God's love in our community. We welcome the engagement of our Green Street family to come and participate in these events as volunteers or just as patrons to help build relationships and create a vision for our events going forward. Join us on 4th Wednesdays from 5:30-7:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall (enter through the red door at ground level facing Green Street).
